Website Email 01793 445500Planning and licensing applications have been sent to Swindon Borough Council who will review the application before deciding whether to allow the supermarket to take over the vacant plot.
This would mark the second time in the space of a year that a Lidl has taken over a previous Homebase plot with a new Lidl superstore set to open in the Orbital Shopping Park in the coming weeks after Homebase shut its doors at the Orbital in August 2019.
In the planning application sent to SBC, Lidl said they will ““undertake a modest programme of internal and external works to enhance the function and appearance of the retail unit to facilitate its occupation.”
These plans will include a new shopfront, car park changes and a new trolley park that will be installed in the grounds of the Greenbridge development. Lidl have also proposed opening and closing hours of 8am to 10pm on Monday to Saturdays, and 10am to 6pm on Sundays.
Should planning application be approved, Lidl will employ up to 30 staff in a mixture of full time and part-time roles.
Speaking on the proposed new development, Lidl GB’s Regional Head Of Property, Glen Stidever, said:
"We have received an incredible amount of support from the local community and are delighted to announce that we have submitted a planning application for our new store on Greenbridge Retail Park.
"If granted this would mark the opening of our fourth store in Swindon and the creation of more new jobs when the store opens. We look forward to receiving the decision in due course.
