The Waitrose Wait is Over!

This morning saw the much anticipated opening of Swindon’s first Waitrose Store in Wichelstowe, Swindon. TGt were, of course, first in the queue to catch a glimpse of the grand unveiling - and what a delight it was!

Despite the chilly morning, the store entrance was buzzing with customers and press as Robert Buckland MP excitedly greeted the crowd, scissors in-hand, ready to cut the green tape.

Robert Buckland MP commented:

“I am really pleased Waitrose chose Swindon, It's given new jobs for local people and it’s a big boost to the Swindon economy. The store is great, modern, and one of the biggest across the country."

After picking up our complementary Waitrose Swindon bag for life, we headed into the store - shopping basket at the ready.

The entrance is bright and vibrant, with a gorgeous fresh flower stand and a trendy juice bar serving up fresh orange juice and their highly recommended ‘melon-aide’. The immaculate new store also features fabulous meat, fish and cheese counters with smiley, friendly staff ready to help with all your culinary needs.

The bakery section was amongst our favourite areas, with freshly baked bread and a selection of pastries and cakes to rival any French patisserie. Needless to say, we keenly filled our baskets with tasty treats for the office.

Excitedly, the store also hosts a few dining areas including a café, restaurant and situated amongst their vast selection of wines, beers and spirits, sits a stylish deli bar. Here, customers can enjoy a deli platter and a glass of their favourite wine whilst they shop.

Our excitement was not unwarranted, the store is a supermarket shopper’s delight. It's modern, with ‘Quick Check scanners’ to scan your shopping on to go, a clean layout and easy to navigate aisle.
