A weekly market will soon return to the heart of the Town Centre, in Wharf Green. The traffic-free location, with its stunning mural, creative lighting and greening up projects, will be the home to a weekly Thursday & Saturday Retail Market and a monthly Fine Food & Farmers Market on the third Friday. A weekend Arts & Craft Market will also follow later in the year. Operated by Cotswold Markets Ltd. and supported by inSwindon BID Co. the first trading day is set for Thursday 14th April, followed by Saturday 16th April, offering a Retail Market from 9.00am until 3.00pm.
Cotswold Markets’ Owner Dave Joynes said, “Cotswold Markets are delighted to be coming to Swindon to re-establish it a leading market town once more. We are looking forward to working with inSwindon BID to bring back the much-missed markets.”
The return of the market has been a hard-fought initiative of inSwindon Business Improvement District to help enliven the Town Centre, support the wishes of residents and town workers, and attract regular visitors from near and far. Cotswold Markets Ltd already operate in a number of towns including Cirencester, Cheltenham, and Tewksbury.
inSwindon BID’s Director Anita Bellinger said, “There has been such an amazing response to the initiative of bringing back quality markets to the Town Centre. The markets will support footfall and benefit existing businesses and visitors alike. The rejuvenation of the area will be a fantastic draw that can be built on around the whole of the Town Centre.”
Local resident Mrs Russell said, “I really like the idea of a market because it shows the vision and direction of the town’s progression for the future. This market will benefit our community because its central for the residents of Swindon and accessible for all. This market will bring all cultures together as one.”
inSwindon Business Improvement District’s investment is to receive a very welcomed 100K contribution to its funding from the Governments’ Town Fund programme. Granted to 100 towns and cities across the country to bring about a levelling up of economic growth. The Government funding is overseen by Swindon’s Towns Fund Board and delivered via Swindon Borough Council. The additional monies will help to enhance the Wharf Green location and Market offer.
