5 things we learnt: Swindon Town v MK DONS

Saturday's 1-1 draw against MK Dons extended Swindon Town's home record at The County Ground this season. TotalSport Swindon's Ryan Walker reflects on the match and gives his '5 things we learnt.'

The unbeaten run continues

Elijah Adebayo’s added time equaliser ensured that Swindon extended their unbeaten home run in the league this season. When taking to the pitch at The County Ground, the crowd have been able to create a cauldron of noise that clearly resonates with the players on the field.

Swindon have come from behind in every home league match this season and it’s evident that the players are starting to believe they are unbeatable at home. This impressive home form could go a long way to ensuring promotion for Town.

Lawrence Vigouroux is back to his best

Having been sent on loan for the majority last season, Lawrence Vigouroux has once again found the form that has made him an established shot-topper for Swindon Town between the posts. His collecting of aerial balls has improved along with his distribution.

Pulled off some fantastic saves against Mk Dons to keep Swindon in the game and on recent form deserves his international call-up for Chile.

Team spirit is at a high

Speaking after the match Lawrence Vigouroux said that Swindon’s ‘team spirit’ was behind their comeback draw. And on reflection, it’s evident that Phil Brown has got his players singing off the same hymn sheet.

When Adebayo found the back of the net in added on time, all the STFC players, except Vigouroux who ran to the bench, his fellow players surrounded him and you could see how much the goal meant to the squad. Unity in the camp plays a massive factor in any sport, and Swindon’s positive attitude will help them stay on course for promotion this season.

More League points are needed

Saturday’s result moved Town onto nine points from six matches this season, and despite not losing since Swindon’s 4-1 away loss to Lincoln, more points are needed on the table. Brown highlighted that on and a half points every game isn’t good enough, and the manager is right.

It’s still early days and teams above Swindon will drop points throughout the course of the season but Town must start adding to their points tally. Swindon needs to capitalise on three straight draws and get the win in their next outing.

Adebayo out to impress

After being dropped from the starting XI against Forest Green Rovers, Saturday’s substitute appearance signalled Adebayo’s intent to become a success in a Swindon shirt.
Coming off the bench early in the second half, the 20-year-old loanee signing made an instant impact running at MK Don’s backline and creating a nuisance of himself. Scored the crucial equaliser for STFC and can look back on his performance with great fondness.
