5 things we learnt: Swindon Town v Tranmere Rovers

SWINDON TOWN produced a stunning display to comeback from two goals down to eventually win 3-2 against Tranmere Rovers yesterday. TotalSport Swindon's Ryan Walker gives his analysis on five things we learnt following the Robins victory.

Doughty is key to the side's success

Brought to STFC as the marquee summer signing and he has certainly lived up to the expectation. Saturday’s performance meant he has now played a part in five of Swindon’s last seven goals, scoring four himself and assisting one.

Constantly patrolling the midfield, Doughty is key to unlocking an opposition defence whilst also performing his defensive duties diligently. A great signing by Brown and he will be key to Swindon earning promotion.

Elijah is up and running

His goal against Tranmere started the comeback for Swindon, but regardless of the goal, it was a brilliant outing for Adebayo. Ran tirelessly at the opposition, used his strength well to hold up play and was an ever-present nuisance for the opposing defence to deal with.

Was finally rewarded with his first Swindon goal and with the pressure of getting off the mark now behind him, Phil Brown will be hoping more goals will follow.3

Romanski isn’t a CB

After recently impressing at left-back, Romanski started Saturday’s league encounter partnering Lancashire in the heart of the defence. Looked uncomfortable playing at centre-back and despite his winning goal endured a torrid afternoon.

Was responsible for Tranmere’s first goal after failing to clear his lines and was too often caught out of position. A player with lots of potential but left-back is definitely his better position.

Swindon are conceding too many

A fantastic comeback victory glosses over the cracks in Swindon’s performance. However, conceding yet more goals highlights just how poor Town’s defensive record is this season. Having now conceded eight goals in just three league matches, Swindon are having to rely on their ability to outscore the opposition. Brown has made it clear that he wants another defender but he only has until the end of this month to recruit one.

Swindon play reactive instead of proactive football

After going two goals down, Town played some fantastic football to get the win. The problem was that it took for Swindon to concede before they started playing attacking football.

They started the match slow with too many players appearing lethargic, but after Tranmere went two-nil up, Town came to the party and produced a brilliant performance. Everyone loves a comeback but Swindon needs to start matches playing as well as what they finish them.
