Adam Ellis speaks to Total Sport ahead of Speedway season opener on Saturday

Prior to the start of the 2017 British Speedway season, Total Sport’s Ryan Walker sat down with new Robins signing Adam Ellis to get his thoughts on the season ahead.

Signing from Swindon’s rivals the Poole Pirates over the winter period, the 21-year-old brings with him a bucket-load of potential and insisted he is extremely eager to get on the track and prove to the Robins faithful what he is capable of.

“I’m feeling really good going into the new season with Swindon,” started Ellis.

“I had good winter training for the new season, getting on the bike and putting some practice in. I just can’t wait to get out there.”

And when questioned on whether it would be strange to ride for his previous clubs fiercest rivals, Ellis had this to say.

“I’ve not found it too hard making the switch from Poole to Swindon.

“Swindon is a place I’ve always enjoyed coming to and the track is pretty awesome. The management is extremely good here and I’ve always got on well with Rosco [Alun Rossiter].

“I was gutted at the time to be leaving Poole, but as soon as I spoke to Rosco, things couldn’t have got any better,” he added.

With average changes for the new season bringing captains Jason Doyle’s average up to over 13.1, there is a risk that this Swindon Robins side will become top-heavy and too reliant on the GP star. However, Ellis believes this won’t be a problem.

“I don’t think it will be too top heavy, there are a lot of teams in this league with an outright number one but perhaps they aren’t all as good as ours.

“When you know you have a number one that is always going to go out and score big points it gives all the other riders a massive confidence boost.

“There will still be massive pressure on all of us and I don’t think it will be different from the other years.”

A successful 2016 for Ellis saw him included in Rossiter’s silver medal winning Team GB squad, and the France-born rider tells of how he hopes to once again make the team.

“I’m trying to obviously not get carried away with expectations, but of course I am really hoping to be involved in all of that once again.

“I’m here to do my best for Swindon and will see what happens.”
