0700 392 1235A difficult meeting seen both sides switch and swap the lead before the Swindon Robins eventually earned the win. And Adam Ellis admits it was important to get all three league points from a difficult meeting.
“It was nice to get another home win and we needed to get some more points on the board,” said Ellis.
“It was a good win, we want to stay in the top four and that’s the aim.
“Some of us started not so well, others started really strong but everyone managed to chip in with points,” he added.
And with teams around Swindon having meetings in hand on the Wiltshire side, Ellis insisted that the Robins need to start getting away wins if they are to stay in those playoff places.
“We know other clubs around us have got a few meetings in hand on us so it was important to win tonight,” said Ellis.
“We need to keep scoring the points at home and not leaving it till the last couple of meetings.
“We need another win against Somerset on Wednesday to back this up now,” he said.
“This win shows our title credentials.
With all riders chipping in with points, Swindon deserved a well-earned victory. However Ellis reserved special praise for reserve Zach Wajtknecht as he race to a paid thirteen points against Wolverhampton.
“We had a couple of problems tonight, Toby and I both touched the tapes and that just shows how important it is to have Zach back in the team,” said Ellis.
“He’s come back, takes those rides, and scores big points in reserve, which is great.
“We need to just make sure all of us are clicking on the same night, which is what’s been lacking at away meetings,” he added.
Difficult track conditions in last weeks meeting against Leicester had riders worrying ahead of last nights racing. But with new shale being added to the track and a lot of man hours put in, Ellis explained how the track had significantly improved.
“To be fair we knew it wasn’t going to be perfect after last week,” he said.
“But the track staff has made big improvements in the space of a week.
“It takes a lot more work than that, but the track was easily a hundred times better than what it was against Leicester,” he added.
“They’ve listened to the fans, have taken on board what us riders have said and I have to take my hat off to the staff for that.
“When the track is like it has been then it takes away our home advantage.
“We can deal with a slick track or a slightly grippier track, but when there are ruts and holes then it makes it dangerous,” said Ellis.
“You can’t even try to race on it when it’s like that.
“Nick [Morris] had a bad crash last week and no one wants to ride when it’s dangerous,” he stated.
Away from racing for Swindon, Adam Ellis has been selected in Team GB’s test match side facing Australia in Glasgow on Saturday. And when asked for his reaction to being picked, the 22-year-old said it was an honour for him to be representing his country.
“I’m really looking forward to it and it should hopefully be a good meeting,” said Ellis.
“The line-up is looking strong and it’s going to be two good teams going head-to-head.
“It’s nice that we are starting to do these test matches once again and it’s a good thing for British speedway,” he added.
