Being booed off has "become a part of life" for Swindon Town

Swindon Town head coach Luke Williams has said that his side being booed off "has become a part of life", however he does not blame the fans for addressing his side in that fashion after results.

Swindon were held to a 1-1 draw by fellow relegation candidates Shrewsbury Town at the County Ground on Saturday in what was a big chance for the hosts to get some ground away from the bottom four.

Booes greeted the final whistle and anti-Lee Power chants were heard after Swindon conceded, however it was not the first occasion in which that has happened.

Tensions have mounted in Wiltshire and reached boiling point this week when key players Michael Doughty and Darnell Furlong both left the club after QPR recalled them from their loan followed by no players coming in, despite Williams saying he was "very confident" of additions before the Shrewsbury match.

At full-time, Williams addressed the frustrations of the fans, beginning with the post-match booes.

"It's just become normal, a part of life," he began.

"(We are) booed off at half-time if it's 0-0, at the end, we live with that constantly, it's normal.

"I'm not here to critisise the crowd one bit, absolutely not, not at all, but at the same time it can affect the way that you think and the decisions that you make if you're constantly being booed and harrassed but it's part-and-parcel of the job we do and we live with that. We certainly don't blame the fans."

It is a well-known fact to those who support the club that November-appointed Tim Sherwood picks the team, delivers team talks, is in charge of transfers and tactics however it is head coach Williams, who takes training, to do the post-match press conference.

This issue was put to him at full-time but Williams said he does not mind the duty as it gives him a chance to talk to supporters regarding matters at the club.

"I love to come out and talk to fans as it gives me a chance to explain a few things.

"At times I can come out and agree with the fans and say 'the performance wasn't good enough' and to let them know that we feel the same way on many occasions and other times to try and defend the players when I feel they've tried everything and the opposition were strong.

"I am very happy to be given the opportunity, through you guys (the media), to connect with the fans, however much they may not like me at the moment, it's fine."
