0700 392 1235After suffering defeat in their last meeting, the Swindon Robins were eager to get back to winning ways. And Bellego admitted it was great to get the win over the Dorset club in front of a big home crowd.
“ It was really important to get back to winning ways and we knew it was going to be tough tonight.” Began Bellego.
“ Poole have got a good side and can cause teams problems, so we had to be ready for the challenge.
“ We take meeting after meeting and just want to keep winning as many races as possible.
“ Tonight was a really good meeting and a big boost for the team.” He said.
Scoring just one in his last outing for the Swindon Robins, away to the King’s Lynn Stars, Bellego put in his best performance of the season so far and told TotalSport how delighted he was to once again score big points.
“ I had a bad meeting away at King’s Lynn and have found it hard at times this season.” Stated Bellego.
“ I’ve only been there twice and it was tough trying to find the right set-up.
“ I was really looking forward to coming home to the Abbey stadium tonight, to my home track, and it was great to score big points again.” He added.
“ Confidence is a massive thing in speedway and since the start of the year I haven’t been making good starts.
“ It’s so important to get a good start and I’ve had to ride so hard this season coming from the back.
“ Tonight was really good though and it was nice to finally get some fresh air out front.” He said.
After winning the title last season, the departure of Jason Doyle from the side over the winter period had some questioning whether team unity would be affected this season. However Bellego was vocal of the positive atmosphere between him and his teammates at the club.
“ The atmosphere at the club between the riders is unbelievable.” Explained Bellego.
“ We’ve have got a really good team this season and a really great atmosphere in the pits as well.”
“ Speedway isn’t an individual sport unless you’re riding in the World Championships and we need to keep riding as a team.
“ It’s really important to all be together and Batch [Batchelor] is a massive part of that.” He added.
Returning to Swindon for his third stint at the club, Troy Batchelor has made himself the perfect replacement for Jason Doyle. And Bellego expressed his delight of having such an experienced rider in the side.
“ Batch is just Batch and he’s been around this sport long enough to know what works and what doesn’t.” Said Bellego.
“ We can’t forget how good he has been throughout his career, he has raced at the highest level in Grand Prix’s and it’s fantastic to have someone with that experience in the team.
“ He has been a great signing and we are delighted to have him in the side.” Finished Bellego.
