Abbey Stadium, Lady Lane, Blunsdon, Swindon, Wiltshire,
0700 392 1235A difficult meeting seen multiple crashes, riders withdraw due to medical reasons, and many track grades take place as it was clear that riders were unhappy with conditions. And David Bellego agreed that all of these factors led to a difficult meeting.
“It was very tough for us tonight,” said Bellego.
“Nick and Musielak both crashed and that made things tough.
“The track wasn’t easy to ride so we had to stay very focused all night,” he added.
“Eventually we managed to get the job done,” he said.
But when questioned on the specifics of what exactly was wrong with the track, Bellego stated that it wasn’t for him to comment on.
“It’s not really my place to say what was wrong with the track,” said Bellego.
“The track was the same for both teams but it wasn’t easy.
“I’m sure they will fix that though and hopefully we will have a good track again soon,” he added.
Difficult track conditions led to injury, and unfortunately for Swindon, Captain Nick Morris had to withdraw from the meetings following his crash. But Bellego admitted he was optimistic of having both Morris, and long-term absentee Zach Wajtknecht back in the side for Wednesdays trip to King’s Lynn.
“We all want to stay out of injury and hopefully Nick will be alright,” said Bellego.
“Zach looks like he will be back soon as well which is great and then we will have a full strength team and hopefully be winning again.
And with himself suspected to be out of action for the next month, it was a delight for the Swindon faithful seeing Bellego back in the squad. Something that even the rider himself wasn’t expecting.
“It was a tough call from myself as to whether I would ride the meeting,” said Bellego.
“I had this stupid crash in France and I didn’t know how I would feel on the bike again.
“Rosco was stuck with finding a team replacement so he called me and I asked if I could ride,” he added.
“I said yes I’ll give it a go and tonight went very well for myself.
“It’s hard when your not 100% fit to ride but it’s good to be back on the bike, the hand is feeling fine, and I’m doing well,” said Bellego.
