Brad Barry welcomes Darnell Furlong competition
Following his winner against Port Vale on Saturday, right-wing back Bradley Barry insisted he is loving the friendly rivalry with Darnell Furlong.
Prior to Town's 1-0 win over Vale on Saturday Queens Park Rangers loanee Darnell Furlong had scored on his debut in the 3-1 loss at Chesterfield and won a penalty in the following match against Gillingham.
Some eyebrows may have been raised, therefore, with Barry's inclusion in the starting line-up for Swindon and doubts were not silenced before half-time as the 21-year-old struggled to impose himself before the break.
Two minutes into the second-half though Barry proved why he was preferred to Furlong with a determined finish into the top corner to send the sceptics into worshippers.
At the full-time whistle Barry rejected the notion that he is anxious over a battle with Furlong.
"It is obviously good to have competition because it makes you think about looking after yourself and making sure you are fit and ready.
"We are all a family here, it is a good competition but we are all friends here.
"It is a healthy competition, when someone comes in to the do the same job you think 'right, I need to work harder so it is good to have him there and it is one of those things, you can't just have one right wing-back so it is good to have him there because he is a top player."
