Swindon Wildcats welcomed Hull Pirates to the Swindon Ice Arena on Saturday, a team who have stood as somewhat of a bogey side during the current campaign. Total Sport's Ben Callaghan was rink-side to recount the best of the action.
Swindon raced into an early lead when Aaron Nell and Jonas Höög combined to find Tomasz Malasinski who fired a big one-timed shot into the roof of the net at 1.22. A shot which Martins Raitums had no chance in stopping. The opening period struggled to burst into life despite the early goal as both sides had chances get blocked or deflected away from the goals.
The second period had more of the action. Tomasz Malasinski scored his second goal of the evening when he broke through the Hull defence and dangled the puck around Raitums in the Pirates net for a 2-0 lead. The assist going to Aaron Nell with the goal timed at 29:21. Hull began to test Lyle in the Swindon pipes when Dominic Osman and Josh Gent went close to breaking the deadlock.
At 34:36 Swindon and Malasinski had their third goals of the night. In similar fashion to his second Malasinski skated through the centre of the Pirates defence but this time fired a backhanded shot through Raitums to complete his hat-trick, Lee Richardson being awarded the assist on the goal. Hull got their first of the night at 36:36 through Sam Towner, after he raced down the right wing, cut inside and fired high above the shoulder of Stevie Lyle.
Hull skated as hard as they had all night long in the final period but Swindon defended well and in numbers to ensure the points were secured and the win was intact.
