Bycroft: 'I am very passionate on the pitch and it means a lot to me'
Swindon Town goalkeeper Jack Bycroft kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw against high-flying Stockport and insisted: “Hopefully we can build on that performance.”
Gavin Gunning’s side picked up a point against the League Two title-chasers, knocking them off top spot in the division in the process.
The closest Town came to breaking the deadlock at Edgeley Park was when Zach Elbouzedi hit the post after Williams Kokolo’s effort was initially saved.
Bycroft himself was on hand at the other end to deny Stockport’s Tanto Olaofe with a fine save.
The Salisbury-born stopper then denied striker Paddy Madden in the second half, as well as Fraser Horsfall on two separate occasions.
Reflecting on the performance, the 22-year-old told Swindon Town’s official Youtube channel: “I think it’s positive to come away with a clean sheet and a point. Hopefully we can build on that performance.
“If we’ve got any aspirations to really kick on and go for anything, we need points on the board. It’s as simple as that.
“We grinded a result out and got a positive performance in the end.”
The point put interim boss Gavin Gunning’s side 18th in League Two, with 40 points from 34 games.
“I follow the club and I know the way that it’s been in a sticky period right now,” said Bycroft, who signed for the club from Southampton in January.
“I know better than anyone that I want it to turn around, I want it to turn around for everyone at home and in there.
“We’ve got a good group. We need to stick together and I’m sure that we can push on, pull together and if not achieve something this season, then 100 per cent pull together and achieve something next year.”
He added: “I’d like to say that anyone can see I enjoy playing here. I am very passionate on the pitch and it means a lot to me – especially getting a point.
“All the fans making that journey, we appreciate every single one of them and it’s good that they got something out of today. It’s positive.”
Town host Tranmere Rovers at The County Ground on Tuesday (7.45pm).
