Ajose finished the 2015/16 season as top scorer for Swindon Town with 25 goals in all competitions.
Town chairman Lee Power admitted last month that the Robins had rejected a bid from an unnamed Championship club for Ajose, after the fee fell short of Town's valuation of the former Manchester United trainee.
Now the club are believed to have struck a deal with Charlton, in the region of £800,000, report BBC Wiltshire.
Charlton, who plyed their trade in the Championship last season, were relegated after finishing in 22nd place, only ten points shy off the bottom of the table.
Should the transfer go through, Ajose will line up against Town next season when the two club's meet in League One.
More to follow.
