PRESS CONFERENCE LIVE: Colchester United v Swindon Town

Good morning and thank you for joining us for today's live press conference blog as we speak to Swindon Town Head Coach, Ben Garner, ahead of his side's trip to Colchester United tomorrow afternoon. Join Total Sport Swindon's Ryan Walker from 8.25am as he speaks to the Swindon gaffer to preview the clash and discuss all-important transfer news.

9:00AM

That concludes today's press conference. Thank you for joining us.

9:00AM

Garner on Louie Barry:

"I like Louie as a player and have known him historically from West Brom, he is a fantastic talent and I have seen a lot of him. He is a player that is very very talented and we want to bring talented players to this football club.

"Any player coming to this football club, the first you will hear about it is when he is announced. I don't like commenting on players from other clubs and we go through the correct channels with every signing we make. I am still really positive we can get the players in that we want."

8:58AM

Garner on re-call decisions by parent club:

"No I've not really [lost trust in clubs] as it factors outside of our control and the discussions we had leading into the transfer window is that they were happy with us and the way their players have developed. Those relationships have been good but football can change.

"For example with the Tyreece situation, I think honestly he has done better than anyone at Ipswich thought he would do and they want to protect him as an asset with a new club and that's the same at Aston Villa with a new manager coming in. We completely understand and that is part of football. The positive is we have shown how we can develop players at this football club."

8:55AM

Garner on impact of departures on squad:

"I'm not concerned w[with the departures] we have brought in two really good players in Jake and Josh and we are really happy with the players we have here. We have had an undercurrent group who have worked hard and really developed this season with the likes of Harry Parsons, Ricky Aguiar, and Mo Dabre and they are all pushing from behind as well. I am really happy with the squad overall and it is a great season so far but we want to improve and I'm confident we can strengthen enough to challenge at the top of this league."

8:42AM

Garner on injuries:

"Jack Payne is still progressing but tomorrow is too soon for him. Mathieu Baudry has had a good weeks training but tomorrow is again too soon for him given how much work we have been doing with him."

8:41AM

Garner on Colchester:

"I've watched their recent games and more so their last game where they have had a new manager in charge. They did very well away from home against Salford and have brought John Akinde in and are looking to strengthen their group. They are a counter-attacking team who likes to break very quickly and that has been their identity this season.

"They might press higher up or sit in a lower block but we don't know until that whistle. We have to be able to cope with whatever is thrown at us but the way we look to play doesn't change. That was a really pleasing thing from last week and we weren't at our best but we still had more shots and chances and should have won the game."

8:39AM

Garner on goalkeeper selection:

"Both Lewis and JoJo have been performing really well in training. it's a healthy competition and that's what we want throughout the squad. There are some tough decisions for me to make."

8:38AM

Garner on Josh Davison:

"He has fitted in really well. I like his quality and he has great energy. He gives us something different and is very good in terms of attacking crosses and if he gets the ball in the box then I'm certain he will score for us. He has had a really good week's training and hopefully he will hit the ground running. I think he will be a player that the fans will like.

"He is a good player in his own right but I think he will help the players around him and players will like playing with him. Josh has had a couple of loans and played in League One this season and scored goals. He comes here wanting to learn and wanting to improve."

8:35AM

Garner on lifting the embargo:

"I'm not party to the conversations going on about lifting the transfer embargo. All I have ever asked for is honesty and clarity. As long as I know where I am and where I'm working from that's great for me."

8:35AM

Garner on new signings:

"It's not stress but it has been a busy week and that is the nature of the beats. The restrictions of the embargo make things challenging but we know what we need before the window closes.

"I know nothing of the news that Anthony Grant is leaving for Scunthorpe. I don't think anyone will be in before Saturday. Josh Davison has come in this week and he has fitted in really well this week.

"I would like to think we will get at least two new players in on Monday. We want to be as strong as we can but we need more depth and have key targets that we are trying very hard to get those deals in. If we could pay a bit more money then those deals would be done but we can't and we just keep pushing and hope we can get those deals over the line."

8:32AM

Garner on Kesler-Hayden:

"The communication throughout is that if Kaine goes back on loan then he will come back here and that is an ongoing process up until the window closes."

8:31AM

Garner on Tyreece Simpson:

"There is no change to the situation. He was called back as they wanted him back to agree to a new deal and if he does that then he will be allowed back on loan to a club but that's the most I know. Ipswich have been really happy with his development and he was very very disappointed to be leaving us but it is out of our hands and that's an issue between Tyreece, his agent, and Ipswich.

"The initial conversation is that [we will be first choice for loan move again] but that's all I know."

8:29AM

Ben Garner has now joined us.
