Conor Thomas looking forward to working with new Swindon Town boss David Flitcroft

Swindon Town midfielder Conor Thomas is looking forward to working with new boss David Flitcroft, as Town prepare for life in League Two.

Thomas joined Swindon on July 4 last year and signed a three-year deal with the club, but his first season in Wiltshire ended with disappointment as the club were relegated from League One.

The midfielder netted once for Town, in a 1-0 win over Millwall, in what at the time looked to be a crucial three points in Swindon's fight against relegation, but they were unable to stay afloat.

He, and the rest of the Swindon squad now have to get into gear for a season in League Two, and the 23-year-old has already had a phone call off new manager David Flitcroft.

"He gave me a call, (he) seems like a really good guy. (He) wants 100% minimum work rate, professionalism and everyone will be pushing in the right direction when we go back to pre-season," Thomas said.

"Everyone wants the same thing so I'm really looking forward to working with him now."

Thomas was speaking to Sky Sports News while working for his academy, Future Sport, which is based in the city of Thomas' former club, Coventry.

"It's been hard work, but we found a lot of people do it once they retire and it's something to fall back on really but I'm 23 and we want to give something back while we're playing while it's still fresh."

Thomas is one of 10 definitely contracted players at Swindon come July 1 as the club face a busy pre-season in terms of new signings.

The club had to deal with another departure today (Thursday) though as club captain Nathan Thompson completed a move to Portsmouth on a two-year deal.
