Furlong, son of former Chelsea striker Paul, is most accustomed in the right-back role and played the whole 120 minutes in QPR's penalty shoot-out win over Swindon in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.
The 20-year-old has made three league senior appearances for QPR, all in the Premier League during the 2014-15 season, which ended in the Hoops' relegation from England's top flight.
Following that season, Furlong was voted QPR's Young Player of the Year by the club's supporters.
He has also enjoyed brief loan spells in League Two for Northampton Town and Cambridge United where he made a combined 32 appearances in all competitions.
Swindon boss Luke Williams announced his intentions during the week to bring some fresh faces to SN1 before the match at Chesterfield on Saturday.
Furlong becomes Town's third loan signing of the season after last week's arrivals of Lloyd Jones from Liverpool and Michael Doughty, also from QPR.
There are no regulations as to how many loans Swindon can have at any one time during the campaign, however only five are permitted in a matchday squad of 18.
