David Flitcroft departs Swindon Town for Mansfield Town
David Flitcroft has been officially unveiled as Mansfield's manager, following reports he was set to quit Swindon for the One Call stadium.
The news broke last night and a press conference was called at 10:45 this morning to confirm the news, as Flitcroft leaves Swindon after just nine months in charge.
Flitcroft was given the task of rebuilding Swindon and taking them back up to League One at the first attempt. He brough 22 new players to the club over two transfer windows and leaves Wiltshire with Swindon 7th in League Two, in the play-offs but five points off the automatic promotion places and 11 off top spot.
He won 21 of his 42 games in charge in all competitions, giving him a win percentage of 50, he drew three matches and lost the other 18.
Mansfield lost their manager Steve Evans on Tuesday night when he resigned from his role at the Stags to take over at League One Peterborough on Wednesday.
Mansfield are currently 5th, two places and three points ahead of Swindon, and also have a game in hand over the Robins.
Swindon player Matty Taylor has been put in temporary charge while Town search for Flitcroft's replacement, and assistant manager Ben Futcher has left too.
In a statement, Swindon said:
"We as a Football Club are extremley disappointed at the timing of this with the club currently lying in a Play-Off position, with an automatic promotion spot still a realistic goal.
"Swindon Town can confirm that Matt Taylor has taken over first-team affairs on a temopary basis whilst we search for a permanent replacement to take the club forward.
"We are committed to finding the right man to not only help the club achieve our short-term aim of promotion back to League One, but to also take the club forward with the club's long-term future in mind."
