Doughty insists he is committed to Swindon

Queens Park Rangers loanee Michael Doughty has outlined that his career intentions remain solely on Swindon Town for the time being.

Doughty, 23, re-joined the Robins on loan last Friday and will be doing all he can to impress at the County Ground, but the midfielder insists he is not currently thinking of getting back into the QPR fold.

“Ultimately I probably have a higher chance of playing here than I did at QPR and that was one of the reasons, not the only one, that drew me here,” Doughty revealed.

“But we have got a fantastic group of players, support staff and management that work tirelessly and I think we are all pulling in the same direction to be successful this year.

“Swindon was always high on my priority list but obviously being contracted to QPR essentially binded me to whatever they wanted to do so I think they wanted to have a proper look at me and, after quite a frank discussion with the manager (Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink), I made it clear that I wanted to be playing regular football this year.

“We came to a decision that I would be going on loan so I have nothing but respect for the people there and grateful for them for letting me come (to Swindon).”

This will be Doughty’s second period on-loan at the club, having previously enjoyed a temporary period in Wiltshire towards the latter end of last season, and the former Wales U-21 international is keen on further Swindon success.

“I’m just really using my time here to be as successful as I can at this football club.

"Football is a funny game and you can get lost in visions of grandeur elsewhere so I just concentrate on the most important thing which is the games every week here and I’m just going to try and be as influential as I can here and help the team as much as I can and I’ll see where that leaves me.”

Doughty will be ineligible to face his parent club when Town travel to Loftus Road on Wednesday in the EFL Cup.
