0700 392 1235A tough start to events on the evening saw Doyle score just one point from his opening two rides, and after finishing second overall, the Australian gave his analysis on what was a fantastic night of racing.
“We changed bikes, which was probably my mistake.” Doyle began.
“We went back to the same bike that we rode for the first two rides and I guess it’s just one of them things.
“To finish second in the final is an incredible moment though because I never even thought I’d make the semi-finals.” He said.
With over 40,000 fans packed into Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, the atmosphere inside the arena was incredible. And Doyle agreed it was certainly a spine tingling moment for him.
“People always complain about indoor stadiums but Phil Morris and Ole Olsen are doing a great job, and have put a great event on.
It was an amazing atmosphere tonight.” Stated Doyle.
“To turn up to the start tapes and hear the fantastic fans cheering their air horns are moments that you’ll never forget.
“I never thought I’d ever get the chance to ride at one Cardiff GP, but it’s my third time here now and it’s fantastic to be scoring points.” He added.
Still recovering from a broken foot, the Australian Ace admitted fitness levels are still not at 100% despite intense training and rehabilitation plans, and although a season break would be nice, the busy schedule of a rider prevents any time off.
“It’s a different way of preparing now to what I’m originally used to.” Admitted Doyle.
“Everyone knows I train a lot before I ride, get warmed up, instead of just sitting in my pits waiting to ride.
“It’s very difficult to not be active in the pits and maybe this is why I’m struggling to make the best starts to the GP’s.” He added.
“The foot actually now needs to have some time off. It’s starting to blow up all the time and it’s all right at the moment, but still very sore.
“There’s no rest and it’d be nice to just stop and tell all the GP’s and my League teams that I’m going to have a holiday and everyone else should have one.” Joked Doyle.
“But its Grand Prix racing and I’ve got to keep scoring the points.
“I don’t want to act like I’m using this injury as any racing excuse though because I would love to be 100% fit and riding on a bike without any crutches.” He said.
With not long to prepare the track at the Principality Stadium, the behind the scenes work that goes into making the event is incredible. And World number one Doyle was full of praise for the GP’s organisers.
“The track changes so much here at Cardiff and it got really rough, but I like it when it’s a bit dangerous and we can all get some great racing.” Said the Swindon Captain.
“The track made a lot of dirt and Cardiff is one of those tracks known for making a lot of dirt.
“Everyone has done a fantastic job and there was some great racing.” He added.
Scoring 13 points on the evening saw Jason Doyle extend his lead at the top of the World Championships by three points, and although delighted to be leading the series, Doyle says people shouldn’t look into the standings too much just yet.
“It’s great to be leading the World Championships, but I think everyone needs to leave the points and the standings alone for now.” Stated Doyle.
“There are still six rounds to go and anything is possible.” He said.
