Doyle and Rossiter React To Becoming 2019 Champions

SWINDON ROBINS Captain Jason Doyle and Team Manager Alun Rossiter have described winning the 2019 British Premiership title as career highlights as Swindon dominated proceedings against the Ipswich Witches at the Abbey Stadium last night to lift the league title once again. Total Sport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the Swindon duo following being crowned champions.

An amazing season has seen the Swindon Robins come deservedly on top as the club lifted their third league title since 2012. A highly-anticipated grand final saw the Swindon Robins come into Thursday with an eight-point aggregate lad over the Ipswich Witches.

But the Robins once again showed their quality by outclassing the Witches as the aggregate scoreline finished 111-68.

Speaking following the celebrations, Jason Doyle and Alun Rossiter gave their reaction to a magical evening that saw Swindon create history at the Abbey stadium.

“It’s unbelievable,” said Doyle.

“This is what speedway is all about.

“Massive crowd for Swindon and to win it on home soil is amazing.

“It’s one of the nicest nights to do it in front of such a big crowd and it’s awesome for my career to do it with all the support we’ve had this year,” he said.

Alun Rossiter echoed his captain’s sentiments, saying:

“In front of this home it’s brilliant and it’s a fantastic night,” said Rossiter.

“It’s sunk in now and this is a special side this year, it’s been amazing and these boys are unbelievable.

“It’s the first time we’ve won the double and there will be more to come if I have anything to say about it,” he added.

Having won the Premiership title in 2017, Doyle has now led the Swindon Robins to two league titles as skipper of the Blunsdon outfit.

But Doyle refused to take all the praise and instead gave full credit to his teammates insisting that Swindon were deservedly crowned champions after being the best team over the course of the year.

“I think this is better [than winning in 2017],” said Doyle.

"Throughout the year we’ve been the strongest team.

“I know there were a lot of injuries when we won it in 2017, but this time we won it without any problems and we are the champions,” he added.

Team manager Alun Rossiter was in full agreement with Doyle and explained how this year's title win will forever hold a special place in his heart.

“They’re all special in their own way,” said Rossiter when speaking about his four league title victories as manager.

“The first one for me was at Coventry so that’s got to be special as I got the monkey off my back.

“Doing it in 2012 to give the club their first league title since 1967 was amazing, 2017 was great, and to do it in front of the home fans is even better,” he added.

“It’s great to do it at home is amazing.

“To see all the fans chanting ‘Champions’ is just absolutely amazing,” said Rossiter.

Lifting the league title marks the perfect end to the season for the Swindon Robins with the club having now done the league and club double in the same racing year.

But the title-winning side hasn’t been without its problems as Rossiter was forced to make changes to the squad at the start of the year.

However, both Rossiter and Doyle reserved special praise for the impact Denmark’s Rasmus Jensen has had on the squad.

“Everything has come together this season,” stated Doyle.

“The team changes that we had at the start of the year with Rasmus [Jensen] and Ellis [Perks] made a lot of difference.

“It means a lot to these boys and it was great speedway.

“Now it’s time to party,” he added.

Rossiter added:

“I think Rasmus has been pretty special for us.

“Ellis [Perks] has done a great job as well.

“Those changes were vitally important for us but the whole team has been amazing.

“I’d love to keep all seven riders,” said Rossiter.
