0700 392 1235A difficult evening of speedway saw the weather play its part as torrential rain prior to the start of racing wreaked havoc on track. And Doyle wasn’t afraid to speak his mind when asked for his thoughts on the state of the Monmore Green circuit.
“That’s not an advert for speedway is it,” said Doyle.
“It’s funny because when the BT cameras are here we have to ride in all types of conditions.
“It just proved tonight was the same case and it was one of those tracks where it could’ve gone either way,” he said.
“There was no home track advantage for the Wolves boys and I feel sorry for them after having such a great year and then having to come and ride in slop.
“We all had to ride it though and thankfully no one is injured,” he added.
Winning 39-49 on the evening see’s the Swindon Robins take a ten-point aggregate lead heading into Thursday’s second leg. But despite remaining unbeaten at the Abbey Stadium this season, Doyle stated that the tie is far from over as Wolves look to bounce back.
“I know we have to push on but when the track isn’t suitable for racing it was very much follow the leader,” stated Doyle.
“Whoever got out the start and had the best first and second corners won the race.
“It’s a bit tough for us guys after being dominant all season and then coming to a track we didn’t really know how to ride.
“The good news is no one got injured and hopefully we don’t have to be put in that position ever again,” he said.
“It’s a great lead. I’d rather be ten points in front than ten points behind.
“It’s still going to be tough because anything can happen in speedway and I know that the Wolves boys will be fired up for tomorrow night.
“We’re ready though and hopefully we can get a good win to make sure we make the final,” said Doyle.
Away from British Speedway, former World Champion Doyle managed to secure a top-eight finish to guarantee automatic qualification for next years World Championships. And Doyle insisted he’s delighted with how his season has ended after a difficult start tot he year.
“It’s been a tough year in the Grand Prix’s and I was really stressing hard to get back into the top eight,” said Doyle.
“It all came together in the last three Grand Prix’s but its great to be in those automatic positions instead of relying on a wildcard.
“I’m really happy with it,” he added.
