ELLIS: cup win prepares us for start of the season

ADAM ELLIS was delighted following the Swindon Robins victory over the Belle Vue Aces on Thursday evening to lift the Charity Shield, turning over a six-point deficit from the first leg. TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker was in the pits to get his reaction.

Their first home meeting of the year at the Abbey Stadium saw the Swindon Robins ride away with the seasons opening piece of silverware. And after storming to victory, winning 52-38 on the evening, Ellis was delighted with his team’s performance.

“ It was a really good evening and a solid start to the year for us.” Began Ellis.

“ We knew it was going to be hard but we got the job done and it’s a good start for us.

“ It was a bit trickier with the track conditions tonight and they took all the riders a while to get used to.” He added.

“ It was a bit wet to start with but it dried out as the racing went on.

“ There wasn’t much passing and gating was really crucial for the riders tonight.

“ Luckily we won it tonight and made up the six point deficit after the away leg at Belle Vue.” He said.

Whilst delighted to lift the Charity Shield, Ellis explains that the main purpose of the evening was to prepare the riders for the start of the league, Swindon hosting Leicester next Thursday, and states that the Swindon Robins are now fully prepared for the start of the season.

“ The main thing is this is that this was a good start to the season for the boys” Stated Ellis.

“ By winning something you get a bit more confidence and it’s good for us as a team.

“ It’s great to get the first bit of silverware of the year and hopefully we can now push on and do the same in the league this year.” He added.

A mixed nights of emotions for the sides number two saw Ellis crash out in his first heat of the evening. However after finding some form in the latter stages of the meeting and finishing with a score of 7+1, he insists that he is now ready for the start of the season.

“ It wasn’t the best of starts for myself tonight.” Admitted Ellis.

“ I wrote one bike off in the first race and I had some troubles with my second bike.

“ I didn’t make the starts and that was crucial on a night where gating was everything.

“ After that it was all-good though and I started to find some good speed on the bike and everything thankfully started to work well” He said.

With the Manchester outfit looking to once again contend for the title this season, it was no easy task turning over a six-point deficit against the Belle Vue Aces. And Ellis believes that there will be no easy meeting this season with teams looking stronger than ever throughout the league.

“ Everyone is looking really strong this season and everyone is looking pretty even throughout the league.” Stated Ellis.

“ It’s really nice to win the first cup of the year for the team and give the fans something to cheer about.

“ It sets us up well for the start of the league and hopefully we can now do the same against Leicester next week.” He added.
