Ellis: “You can’t predict things in speedway.”

ADAM ELLIS returns to the Swindon Robins looking to improve on a mixed debut season at the club. TotalSport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the Team GB rider and got his thoughts on the season ahead.

A difficult 2017 saw Adam Ellis battle with persistent injuries to eventually become part of the title winning side. And after going under-the-knife for a wrist operation over the winter, Ellis exclaims how delighted he is to finally get back on the bike.

“Last year I put a lot of pressure on myself at the start of the season after having a good 2016, it didn’t work out and now I’m going into the new season looking to enjoy my riding more than ever.” Began Ellis.

"I had to have an operation to my scaphoid following the conclusion of last season which has hampered my preparation this year but I’m feeling great now and am one hundred percent fit.

“Now the weathers starting to get better, it means that I can get out on the bike and practice.

“We’ve all been chilling out and enjoying some good time off over the winter, but now we have to get down to business.” He said.

Winning the league title in the grand final at Wolverhampton’s Monmore Green last season makes the Swindon Robin’s one of the favourites to lift the trophy for a second successive year, however Ellis believes that no result can be predicted in speedway.

“I don’t think you can predict things in speedway.” Stated Ellis.

“A team can storm to the title one year and then have a shocker the next season.

We just have to see how it goes, banging in points and riding well as a team. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t be up the top of the table once again come the end of the season.

“Until the season starts no one really knows what to expect, teams can make changes and you look at the job Tobiasz did when he came in for us last year and we ended up winning the league.” He added.

The departure of Jason Doyle meant promotion to Captain for fellow Swindon teammate Nick Morris, and Ellis backs the young Australian to excel as club skipper.

“Losing Jason [Doyle] wasn’t ideal but Nick [Morris] stepped up last season and if he keeps performing then we have one of the best outright number one’s in the league.” Said Ellis.

It’s important to have someone in the team that you can look up to if your struggling, and Nick will fill the captaincy role really well.

“Having personal aims works for some rider but I’m just going to enjoy my riding and hopefully get some wins for Swindon. “ He added.
