EXCLUSIVE: Doyle loving life at Swindon following comeback victory over Wolves

JASON DOYLE praised his teammates and supporters of the Swindon Robins following the clubs 46-44 victory over the Wolverhampton Wolves, stating that the evenings racing was a great advert for British Speedway. Total Sport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the team captain in the pits following the result.

A battling performance from the Swindon Robins saw the Blunsdon outfit secure the league win in the last heat of the night as Doyle and teammate Tobiasz Musielak secured a 5-1 heat maximum to guarantee victory.

Speaking following the racing action, the Australian ace explained how dramatic finishes can only be a good thing for the sport, even if it’s not fun watching from the pits.

“That was ideal speedway for the fans,” said Doyle.

“Hopefully the crowd enjoyed seeing a great meeting, but it was tough for us boys on another different track.

“Hats off to the track staff, they’ve put a great track together but we had a bit of a blimp at the start of the meeting which cost us a fair few points,” he added.

Having been behind on the scorecard all evening up until heat fifteen, the Swindon Robins had to produce arguably some of their best riding of the season to clinch victory from the jaws of defeat.

And whilst it was a difficult evening for all involved, Doyle was full of praise for his Robins teammates.

“We were down by twelve points at one point so it just shows what a great team we’ve got and also it’s not just one rider scoring the point,” said Doyle.

“It’s great to see Toby [Tobiasz Musielak] getting some points after his injury and also the young boys as well.

“It’s a tough league and hopefully this is the start of some good racing for us Swindon Robins boys and hopefully we can continue to rise up the table into the playoffs,” he said.

Victory for the Robins saw the side leapfrog Wolves into the fourth playoff position.

But with only three home meetings left, Doyle explained it was crucial Swindon start picking up points away from home if the side are to be in with a chance of winning their second premiership title.

“We’ve always struggled on the road and we need to improve that, but nights like this are the ones we need to be winning,” stated Doyle.

“It was a tough one tonight with Wolves as they’ve got a very strong team from one to seven.

“The reserves they’ve got means it’s always going to be tough but it was a good performance,” said Doyle.

Racing in Swindon kevlars for the third season in recent times has seen Doyle become a fan favourite at the club with many classing the Australian as a club legend.

And the Swindon Captain himself was only too happy to explain how much he is enjoying life at the Abbey Stadium this year.

“It’s enjoyable racing at Swindon this season,” stated Doyle.

“It’s probably the only team that I’m winning with at the moment in my league racing.

“Over in Poland my Torun team is struggling at the bottom of the league and so is Rospiggarna in Sweden.

?“It’s nice to come to Swindon and get some points and also a win so it’s good to be on the winning side,” added the skipper.
