Eye injury delays Kelly Morgan's bout with Nikki Adler

Kelly Morgan's fight against Nikki Adler will have to now go ahead at a later date, as Morgan has suffered an eye injury.

Morgan was due to fight WBC world champion Nikki Adler in the spring but that has now been put on hold for the forseeable future as Morgan's eye injury is set to keep her out of the ring for four to six months.

The 36-year-old has a condition called 'fourth nerve palsy', which causes such complications as double vision, however Morgan is expected to make a full recovery and her boxing career is not under threat.

"It's damage to the fourth cranial nerve," she told BBC Wiltshire.

"It's just a build-up of a couple of years of hard boxing. It did happen in the middle of sparring but I hadn't been buzzed in the round.

"The bell went, I went back to the corner and had horrendous double vision.

"The nerve is damaged so there's paralysis in the muscles that control my right eye. It is something that recovers, mostly naturally, but there is a possibility I'll need a small operation.

"We don't have any doubt that I'm going to be back, it's just a bit of a delay now. I apply myself in every way possible, minus getting hit in the head.

"Thankfully I haven't got a leg or a shoulder injury or something like that, I can do everything else. I'm just doing everything I can to come back bigger better and stronger."
