FA CUP MATCH REPORT: Swindon Town (0) v (1) Cheltenham Town

SWINDON TOWN were dumped out of the FA Cup at the hands of Cheltenham as Alex Addai's solo effort was enough for the visitors as they ran out 1-0 winners at the County Ground. Total Sport Swindon's Rajan Hothi gives his report from the clash.

Richie Wellens made one change from the side that drew at Whaddon Road with Dion Donohue being replaced by Ellis Iandolo.

Swindon had a glorious chance to open the deadlock after just three minutes. Kaiyne Woolery was brought down in the box, but Michael Doughty saw his weak penalty saved by Scott Flinders before Jordan Lyden blasted over the rebound.

Cheltenham should've scored just eight minutes later when Town failed to deal with a cross into the box. The ball fell to Alex Addai, but he saw his goal-bound effort blocked by Mathieu Baudry.

Another chance fell to the hosts just before 20 minutes. Good work from Jerry Yates saw the Rotherham-loanee find Rob Hunt, but Flinders was equal to the right-back's effort.

Hunt was again presented with a chance to put Town ahead just a couple minutes later as a well-worked counter-attack saw Doughty's back-heel find Hunt, but once again Flinders kept him at bay.

In a first-half that was not short of chances, Hussey was next to miss a good chance to break the deadlock as he could only slam over from a corner.

Town's best opening came just before the half-hour mark following good work from Diallang Jaiyesimi who picked out Yates, but the post came to the visitors' rescue as another chance went begging for Richie Wellens' side.

Addai was looking a threat with his pace, and he made light-work of Baudry before playing an inviting ball across goal, but thankfully for the hosts, Jonte Smith couldn't get on the end of it.

Down the other end, Jaiyesimi's long-range effort was only parried by Flinders, but no one was on hand to follow up for Town.

Swindon started the second-half strongly and almost took the lead courtesy of Jaiyesimi. The Norwich-loanee showcased his power and skill to get past a couple of Cheltenham defenders before seeing his effort saved by Flinders.

However, it was the visitors who took the lead just five minutes into the second-half. Addai was given too much time on the ball before cutting in and unleashing a fantastic strike past the hapless Steven Benda to put Michael Duff's side ahead.

Swindon should've pulled themselves level before the hour-mark, but the post once again came to the aid of the visitors. Lyden won the ball in midfield and found Yates who sent Doughty through on goal, but the midfielder saw his effort crash off the post.

Wellens' side were starting to dominate proceedings and Jaiyesimi once again went close, but his strike went wide as Town went in the hunt of an equaliser.

Sidy Sanokho replaced Danny Rose while Scott Twine came on for Jayiesimi as Wellens looked to find a way for his side to restore parity.

However, Swindon just couldn't break their League Two counterparts down and Cheltenham ran out victors and booked their place in the second-round where they will host Port Vale.
