Fans Buoyed By Darcy Ward Recovery Progress

Swindon Robins' fans and speedway fans around the world have been buoyed by recent images of Darcy Ward's rehabilitation process, in which the former Swindon rider is seen standing without the assistance of a standing hoist.

Ward has been confined to a wheelchair ever since suffering a horrific crash back in August 2015, while guesting for Polish side Zielona Gora.

Previously, the Aussie star had been featuring for Alun Rossiter's Swindon Robins, on loan from Poole Pirates, and was a key driving force behind the upturn in fortunes for the Blunsdon outfit during the 2015 campaign.

Following the crash, the whole speedway family and the wider sporting world rallied behind Ward, offering support and raising money for the Darcy Ward foundation in order to cover the cost of medical expenses.

Speaking in the months following the crash, Ward had admitted on numerous occasions that the situation was bleak, but remained adamant that he would not give up in his quest to return to full health.

Ward told the BBC in November: "I know that this is probably it forever. But I also know that miracles can happen in medicine in this day and age."

Since then, the 23-year-old has worked tirelessly in his efforts of recovery, which now seem to be paying dividends.

An image of Ward circulating on social media has got the entire speedway community hopeful that the Aussie star can make a full recovery.

Published on the Forkrent Racing Team official Facebook page, the image shows Ward in good spirits, standing upright without the assistance of a standing hoist.

The post also contained an update from Ward's partner Lizzie, who confirmed the image shows the first time the former Robins man did not require a hoist, nor any assistance locking his legs.

Ward, who has admitted he wishes to remain involved in speedway in some capacity, has again thanked the speedway community for their words of support as his remarkable recovery process continues.
