Five Wildcats Stars Set For Big GB Test

Swindon Wildcats will have five of their personnel on Great Britain duty this evening, as the under 20s national set-up takes on MK Lightning in a friendly encounter.

The clash will serve as a final warm-up tie before the World Championships, to be hosted in Megeve, France, later in the month.

Departing Wildcats include netminder Jordan Hedley, D-men Callum Buglass and Harvey Stead, along with Michael Stratford and Latvian born Toms Rutkis.

Team GB coach and current Telford Tigers coach Tommy Watkins has labelled tonight's encounter between his GB candidates and MK as a "big test", with ample opportunity for the players to showcase what they are capable of.

Great Britain will enter December's tournament alongside stiff opposition. Pitted against the likes of hosts France, Japan, Poland, Slovenia and Ukraine, Watkins' side will have their work cut out if they are to progress to the tournament's latter stages.

Speaking of the Milton Keynes clash as a tool with which to prepare his troops, Watkins said: "I am looking forward to this game and seeing how the squad play.

"MK are a quality EPL side and will pose a lot of threat and it will be a big test for the roster.

"The World Championship is just around the corner now and this will be a massive help in our preparations.

"Getting the squad together so close to a tournament is a massive bonus for us," Watkins added.

Speaking to Total Sport earlier in November about the GB starlets within the Wildcats' ranks, head coach Aaron Nell said:

"Wildcats have always had a good relation with GB, and our guys getting selected shows just what we're building here.

"We're hoping our players can go away, perform well for GB and come back and bring that buzz into our camp, and help us push on with our league campaign."

The GB showdown against Milton Keynes will commence from 7.30, with the face-off expected around 7.45.
