Grajczonek on Aussie unity and 'incredible' Jason Doyle
With the engines of the 2016 Speedway Elite League ready to roar, Total Sport’s Ryan Walker got the thoughts of new boy Josh Grajczonek and how he feels heading into the new campaign.
Racing in the British Elite League since 2009, Grajczonek is no stranger to British racing but admits he is happy to be at the Swindon Robins for the 2016 season.
“I’m really looking forward to the new season with Swindon,” Grajczonek began.
“I know all the boys here and have had some good dealings with Rosco before.
“We all know how each other works so there isn’t any problems getting used to one another so we will just have to see how it goes," he stated.
After getting to the Elite League grand final for the past three seasons with Poole and Belle Vue respectively, something that Swindon have struggled to do, Grajczonek knows what is required to raise Swindon’s game to the next level.
“I’ve been to the grand final for the past three seasons so I know what it takes to get there,” Grajczonek said.
“It’s always good to make the final and once you get there it’s almost like a fresh start.
“If we make the final this year it will be unreal, we’ve got the team and the teams got the talent to do it," he added.
With just the Australian nationality throughout the main body of the team Grajczonek believes that team spirit throughout the Australian riders will be hugely beneficial to having a successful year.
“Team spirit is always a major factor if you’re to be successful,” Grajczonek explained.
“Having the other Aussie boys here is great and we always enjoy giving each other a bit of banter.
“We haven’t seen each other for like two months but the first thing you do is take the mick out of each other which always funny.
“Hopefully we can have fun along the way and get those wins," he added.
With such a strong outfit for the Wiltshire club the playoffs should be an easy target as long as riders can stay injury free, something Grajczonek agreeds with.
“We should make the playoffs, touch wood we can all just stay fit," he said.
“Speedway can be cruel sometimes like we’ve seen with Darcy [Darcy Ward] but as long as we can ride safe and ride hard then hopefully we can make it.“
During his Elite League career, Grajczonek has rode with many world-class riders, but admits Swindon’s number one Jason Doyle is a different calibre of rider.
“I think Doyley [Jason Doyle] is one for us all to look up to,” Grajczonek said.
“He has dedicated himself so hard to racing, he’s always training well and if you look at him now he is in great shape and is so lean and fit.
“That’s what we should all be doing, some riders become lazy, not myself, but riding is more than just getting on a bike," he said.
“Doyley proved that by finishing fifth last year, how important fitness is and you look at his rise in Speedway and how incredible it is then you have to look up to him,” Grajczonek added.
