Abbey Stadium, Lady Lane, Blunsdon, Swindon, Wiltshire,
0700 392 123529 meetings rode, 17 victories, 1,1312 points scored, and it all comes down to this. The Swindon Robins have produced sensational speedway action all season, and now just fifteen heats of adrenaline-packed racing action seperate them from lifting their third league title since 2012.
A fantastic showing at the Foxhall Stadium on Tuesday evening saw the Robins emerge victorious in a 49-41 showing giving Alun Rossiter's side an eight-point aggregate lead heading into tonight's second-leg.
But in the words of Robins skipper Jason Doyle, 'It's not over till the fat lady sings.'
Tonight's grand-final second leg presents the Ipswich Witches with a mountain to clim as they attempt to claw back an eight-point deficit at the Abbey Stadium. And to make matters worse for Ritchie Hawkins, Swindon are unbeaten around their home circuit this season.
On the two previous occasions the Witches have visited Blunsdon in the league this year, Swindon have twice ruled victorious winning 46-44 in July, before then dominating proceedings in August as the Robins secured a 66-24 victory.
However past results count for very little when it comes to speedway, and with the acquisition of Grand Prix star Niels Kristian-Iversen, tonight's fixture represents a new challenge for Rosco's Robins.
Tuesday's result see Swindon head to the Abbey under the pressure of knowing that they should win the league title. Whilst Ipswich will arrive in Wiltshire with nothing to lose and this perhaps is the biggest threat for the hosts.
Speak to any speedway rider and you will be told that a riders mentality has a massive effect on their performance. And with little pressure on them, every member of the Witches squad will be riding with the aggressiveness of having nothing to lose as they seek to turn this tie on its head.
In contrast, Swindon will have to cope with being expected to win this title. But with experienced riders such as Jason Doyle and Troy Batchelor amongst their ranks, along with being under the watchful eye of team manager Alun Rossiter, there is little chance of complacency sneaking its way into the ranks.
Swindon have an abundance of talent amongst their ranks but they will need Adam Ellis, Rasmus Jensen, and Tobiasz Musielak to back up both Doyle and Batchelor by scoring well in their rides.
Jake Allen presents the biggest Ipswich threat with the Australian reserve scoring a total of 31+2 points since the start of the playoffs. But he will require support from fellow reserve James Saerjant if the duo are to make any impact against Swindon's reserve pairing of Ellis Perks and Claus Vissing.
The first couple of heats will likely decide the outcome of the meeting. Swindon will be eager to secure heat advantages early on to diminish any hope that Ipswich will have of producing a comeback. However if Ipswich start well and reduce the deficit early on then they will be confident of lifting the title.
Sporting history is filled with comeback stories of underdogs who have upset the odds and tonight is a chance for Ipswich to make their own piece of history. But Swindon know what they have to do and if they ride the way they have all season, then the Robins should secure the 2019 Premiership title in comfortable fashion.
Prediction: Swindon lift the title.
