Grand Prix finale 'tough to take' for Swindon's Jason Doyle

As the British FIM Speedway Grand Prix concluded in Cardiff on Saturday night, Total Sport caught up with Swindon's star man Jason Doyle, who was pitting his abilities against some of the world's best and finished the evening third in world rankings.

A fantastic evening for Doyle saw Swindon's Australian ace ride to an impressive 12 points, setting a new track record at the Principality Stadium along the way.

However after successfully qualifying for the semi-finals, disaster struck for Doyle as some questionable riding saw Polish rider Zmarzlik finish second in semi-final, ahead of the Robins' captain.

“It’s a bit disappointing to be honest," said Doyle after the GP.

“It’s pretty hard to take. All weekend I’ve worked hard and felt good with lots of speed.

“It’s one of those things though where it all went wrong in the semis," he added.

“I make a good start on the first run of it but it was then pulled back for some unknown reason.

“I didn’t make the best of starts in the re-run but I got to the first corner with Lindback and was good.” He stated.

“I then got into a bit of a tussle with Zmarzlik and he tried to square the corner up and run me straight at the fence.”

After winning his maiden GP in Prague just over two weeks ago, Doyle was looking in fantastic form in Cardiff. But after Saturday evening, Doyle was critical of some decision making by officials.

“ I think there has to be some sort of line where you either exclude the rider or can’t go down every time.” Doyle explained.

“ I one hundred percent think Zmarzlik should have been excluded.

“ It’s not a way of safe riding. I was fair to him but that’s how he wants to ride.”

“ I think their needs to be more consistency with decision making.” He added.

With over 50,000 fans attending Saturday evenings British Grand Prix, the noise inside the close-roofed stadium was certainly something special. And Doyle was amazed by the reception he received.

“ The atmospheres here was absolutely amazing mate.” Doyle admitted.

“ Cardiff is a huge hype for the riders on the series and one we all look forward to.

“ It’s especially a draining one for myself and some of the other boys too though.

“ There are so many people involved, and it’s sometimes difficult to take in.” He said.

With the Speedway World Cup taking place at the end of the month, July really is an action-packed month of Speedway. And Doyle told TotalSport of the pride he feels in representing his country.

“ I always like riding for my country and hopefully I will be selected in the team by Lemo. [Mark Lemon.]” Doyle answered.

“ Things are looking good at the moment but we will see what happens.

“ I don’t think there is any rider that doesn’t enjoy riding for their country.

“ It’s an honour and hopefully us Australian boys can do a good job," added Doyle.
