Greek news outlet links Christopher Samba to Swindon Town

Former Queens Park Rangers defender Christopher Samba has been linked with a move to Swindon Town by Greek news outlet 'Sport 24'.

Samba, who currently plays for Panathinaikos in Greece, has also featured for the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Dynamo Moscow in his career that has seen him become a bit of a journeyman.

In January 2013, after suffering from racial abuse while at Anzhi in Russia, Samba moved back to England to join QPR for a whopping £13.5 million but could never replicate his Blackburn form at Loftus Road and in the summer of 2013 he went back to Anzhi for £12 million as the Rs were relegated from the Premier League.

Earlier this week, Swindon head coach Luke Williams revealed players that have played at the "top level" have been on trial at the County Ground as new director of football Tim Sherwood prepares to bolster his squad in January to distance the Robins from the relegation zone.

According to 'Sport 24', Swindon are monitoring Samba's fitness before deciding to sign the 32-year-old Congo international, who has 26 caps for his country, scoring one goal.

There are now direct links between Samba and Sherwood, the pair have never worked together, but the signing would be the latest in a series of ex or current QPR employees being seen at Swindon.

Michael Doughty and Darnell Furlong are both on-loan at Town from the west London club currently, Town's goakeeping coach Dean Thornton previously worked at QPR while in 2015 Massimo Luongo and Ben Gladwin both left Swindon to sign for the Hoops.

Samba's contract in Greece expires in June, 2017.
