Gunning believes McGurk will be a 'proper problem' for defences
Interim boss Gavin Gunning believes winger Sean McGurk will be a “proper problem” for League Two defences, once he is fully fit and firing.
McGurk netted the opener as Swindon Town sealed a 3-1 victory at home against Tranmere Rovers.
He jinked past his defender to strike first at the County Ground, with victory putting Gunning’s men 17th in the table.
Speaking about McGurk, who arrived from Leeds United at the start of this month, Gunning told BBC Radio Wiltshire: "He's got so much to learn but so much quality.
"I think he's going to be a big coup for the club - anybody who has seen him play - and he's still not fit, that's the thing.
"The scary thing is going to be when we get him fit because he's still nowhere near fit enough to where he wants to be.
"When he gets fit he's going to be a proper problem.
"His talent isn't the coachable thing it's positional play with him, to show him where to be.
"He needs coaching on where he can improve on being in the right position earlier to use his potential."
Rob Apter levelled for Tranmere just two minutes after McGurk’s opener on Tuesday night, before Rushian Hepburn Murphy’s double sealed a 3-1 victory for Swindon.
Gunning’s men host Harrogate in their next test on Saturday (3pm).
