Swindon Town 'have come an awful long way' after fourth win in a row
Boss Ian Holloway stressed his Swindon Town team had “come an awful long way” after they thumped 10-man Carlisle 5-1 at Brunton Park.
Danny Butterworth opened the scoring for the Robins on the stroke of half-time, before Holloway’s men put their foot on the pedal after the interval.
Aaron Drinan, Joe Westley, Will Wright and Paul Glatzel also found the net against the Cumbrians, who struck two minutes from time via Joe Hugill.
Carlisle also had Jordan Jones sent off just past the hour mark – his second booking was for simulation.
Assessing the contest, Holloway said: "Their shape, considering it is such a new team, caused us all sorts of problems and I was a bit worried about it.
"We scored just before half-time which wasn't great for them as it was probably against the run of play.
"I think that the second one was the nail in their coffin, we spoke at half-time about what we needed our frontmen to do and the positioning we talked about got Aaron in.
"They mustered all sorts of things but I am delighted with that, we wouldn't have been able to do that a few months ago.
"The strength on the bench that we have got to bring people on fresh at the end to do that to them on the counter attack when they had a man sent off.
"I am absolutely delighted because we have come an awful long way."
Victory was Town’s fourth in a row in League Two, putting them 14th in the division. They host sixth-placed Port Vale on Saturday (12.30pm).
