Holloway's aim to make sure squad are 'nurtured, loved and cherished'
Manager Ian Holloway oversaw his second win in a row before declaring the importance of his Swindon Town players being “nurtured, loved and cherished”.
The boss was speaking after Town once again came from behind to overcome Tottenham under-21s 2-1 and progress to the knockout rounds of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy.
Goals from Danny Butterworth and Sean McGurk proved enough for Holloway’s men to seal their second win under the new boss, having also progressed past Colchester to reach round two of the FA Cup after extra time on Saturday.
But Holloway, whose side still sit 22nd in League Two, is under no illusions that wins in the fourth tier still need to come.
He said: “We are not in a position to dance around it, we need to win and we need to get some points to start climbing up this league.
“That is my huge challenge, to make them believe they can do it.
“They have shown resilience and character and it is really important that the whole team does that.
“I am going to need everybody that we have got, they are all needed and it is really important that they are nurtured, loved, and cherished.
“I haven’t got time to waste and I have got some big decisions to make to move us.
“With my experience, I will do that and I will not upset them (the players) as I will tell them what I think and why I did it and they are going to have to accept it, because we need to win.”
Next up for Town is a trip to MK Dons on Saturday (3pm), Holloway’s first league game at the helm.
