'They all had to play well and they did' - Holloway hails squad after beating league leaders

Boss Ian Holloway hailed the togetherness within his Swindon Town squad after they overcame League Two leaders Walsall 1-0.

Joel Cotterill’s goal just before the hour mark at Bescot Stadium proved enough for Town to pull off a remarkable triumph.

The result puts them 14th in the division. After being bottom of the table earlier in the campaign, Holloway’s side are now 11 points adrift of the play-off places with 12 league games of their season remaining.

Speaking about what brought victory against the league leaders, Holloway said: "Teamwork, organisation, and a little bit of zest that we probably needed against a really good side.

"It was not a day for fancy passing on that pitch, it was a day for working hard and doing your jobs and we did that.

"They all had to play well and they did. Then we matched their organisation, work-rate, experience, and everything about them and then some.

"As I said to them just now 'Where were you in the first 19 games of the season? What are we doing? How can we be like this? Whatever we do we cannot stop this because the information we are getting, I think, is exactly the same.

"But now they are taking it out there, they are working, they are not blaming someone else.

"I have never seen a group turn into such a together one in my life."

Town are back in action when they host Salford City at the Nigel Eady County Ground on Tuesday (7.45pm).
