Website 0330 002 1993Another Eoin Doyle brace alongside Keshi Anderson's opener saw Swindon make light-work of the Silkmen, however, it was Rob Hunt's performance that may have slipped under the radar.
Looking strong defensively, and eager to be involved in attacking moves, Hunt cut an assured figure at right-back as Town moved up to second in the league standings.
Speaking after the match, Hunt believed Swindon dominated throughout and could've added more to the three goals scored.
"I think it was a little comfortable for us, and it probably should've been more, but it was in difficult conditions with the heat being high,” said Hunt.
"But most importantly we got a clean sheet and scored three good goals and got the win,” he added.
Town dominated the encounter, enjoying 64% of possession and limiting the visitors to just two shots on target and Hunt feels that Wellens' philosophy is helping them dominate games.
"I think it's down to the way we want to play," said Hunt.
"Getting the ball down, movement and quick passes and drawing teams onto us, we can pick them off.
“But we also have the other side of it where we can soak up pressure and counter with real good effect,” added Hunt.
The 24-year-old joined Swindon over the summer following the mutual termination of his contract at Oldham.
And Hunt is one of a few players in this Swindon side to have played under Wellens previously, with the full-back explaining how Wellens’ position at Swindon was a key to him joining the Robins.
"It was a tough one I had a year left on my contract and things didn't go to plan,” said Hunt.
“Richie spoke to me and said he wanted me to come here and I thought it was the best thing for my development at the stage I'm at to come here and play for him.
"I love playing for him and when he first took over at Oldham you can see how well we did and the way he plays as well.
“The way he plays, his man-management, training has always got good tempo and good quality, and you can see out there in the games we've played so far this season I think it shows what we're working on and what comes from it,” he added.
"He joins in every day and so does Hunty (Noel Hunt) so it's good to learn from people who have played the game and who have played at a high level.
“It's good to learn from them and the older players who have played at a higher level,” added Hunt.
Speaking following the match, Wellens stated that his only concern is that complacency may eventually affect his side, but Hunt insists that the squad will take measures to guard against this happening.
"Don't get too high and don't get too low, it's a long season you have to stick at what you're good at,” explained Hunt.
“You need to know what you're good at and know what you're not so good at and be consistently good at your role for the team.
“Don't get carried away, there are 38 games left, we'll probably have some bad runs and some good ones. More good ones the better we'll be,” he said.
STFC's next test is the visit of Colchester United on Tuesday night at the County Ground, and the two sides will be familiar with each other following their Carabao Cup clash last month which saw Colchester run out three-nil victors.
However, Hunt believes that he and the squad are now better equipped for the visit of John McGreal's side as Town look to secure their fourth win in a row.
"We got a few things we know already, and a few things we need to work on. It should be a good game, a tough game, but I think we will be able to get another win,” said Hunt.
