"I wasn't there to be perfectly honest": Tim Sherwood comments on his role at Swindon Town
Former director of football Tim Sherwood has spoken out on his troubling seven-month spell at Swindon Town.
Sherwood was named as Town's director of football on November 10 last year and was in charge of all football-related matters at the County Ground, from tactics to transfers, ahead of head coach Luke Williams.
The 48-year-old was on non-contract terms for his role at Town which means he did not recieve a salary over his seven months at the club.
His time at Swindon did not go well, as, despite eight new arrivals in January, Swindon were relegated from League One with one game to spare. Sherwood then left the club.
Speaking to the Birmingham Mail at Belfry Golf Club ahead of a charity golfing event, Sherwood said: "I wasn't there (at Swindon) to be perfectly honest, I was helping my friend out."
Sherwood and chairman Lee Power are long-term friends, after being teammates at Norwich in their playing days and Sherwood was the best man at Power's wedding.
He continued: When you go and try and put a few deals together you have to have a title. That Director of Football role is different at every football club you go to so it depends how the club want to implement it.
