'It was a fresh start for us' says Swindon Robins' Nick Morris

After a great night of racing saw the Swindon Robins victorious over the Coventry Bees, Total Sport’s Ryan Walker spoke to Nick Morris to get his reaction.

Scoring just one point away to the Poole Pirates last week, fan favourite Morris was eager to bounce back, and a resounding 55-35 victory for the Swindon Robins over the Coventry Bees last night was in Nick’s eyes the perfect response.

“It was really good to bounce back tonight after what happened against Poole,” Morris began.

“It’s still early days so we’ve just been fixing the problems with the bikes and everything.

“All the boys did good, Sedgy [Justin Sedgmen] had a couple of bike problems after putting some new engine plates in tonight but it will all be good,” He states.

A first home meeting of the season for the Swindon Robins presented Alun Rossiter’s men with a perfect opportunity to announce themselves as serious title contenders on the 2016 Elite League stage, and with a 20 point win over Coventry, Morris admits it was like a fresh start after last weeks disaster at Wimborne Road.

“I suppose it was a fresh start tonight really,” said Morris.

“Poole was just an off day for the team and it’s always going to be tough going there.

“It’s early days everyone is still getting into it and we are all a bit rusty. But this win today has got some confidence up in the team and we will kick on from here," he added.

Scoring 8+2 on the night against the Coventry Bees was a significant improvement on his one point performance against arch rivals Poole last week and Morris enthused that he will be a happy man if he can keep scoring high figures.

“For sure im happy with the points I scored tonight, a lot happy than I was against Poole that’s for sure,“ Morris joked.

“I had that one race tonight when I kept spinning at the start but after a couple of changes for the last two I was jumping out the starts which is great.”

With a lack of Grand Prix riders racing in the British Elite League this season, most teams have tried to fill out their top five with consistent and reliable point scorers, and Morris agreed that because of this every team will fancy their place in the playoffs.

“That’s Speedway at the end of the day and in this League anyone can beat anyone,” Morris iterated.

“You’ve got four laps, two straights and four corners so if you get out in front then your going to be hard to catch.

“You’ve got to concentrate on making those starts and it’s a massive thing that we’re all working on this year," he said.

Racing in Poland for Sparta Wroclaw this year on a full time basis for the first time in his career, many are expecting Morris to struggle come the end of the season as the travel demands take a toll on his body. But the Swindon number five doesn’t agree and believes that he will be able to more than cope with racing in both the Polish and British Leagues.

“I was doing Premier League last year and that was more meetings than Poland so I don’t think there will be any problems will tiredness or anything,” Morris said.

“I’m really looking forward to it and racing over there will only get me better if anything.

“I’ll have to change my style and things a bit to become a quicker rider but it really is the next step up in my career which I can’t wait for,” he added.
