"It's hard to know what the group needs" - Swindon manager Luke Williams
Swindon boss Luke Williams has revealed he is struggling to decipher what is wrong with his side following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at home to Walsall.
Two sensational strikes from Turk Erhun Oztumer condemned Swindon to their fifth home defeat in six matches, just a matter of days after a 3-0 trouncing of Rochdale that raised spirits around the County Ground.
After switching formation from 3-5-2 to 4-2-3-1 Swindon kept two clean sheets on the trot in a 0-0 draw at Wimbledon and the aforementioned Rochdale win, but the Walsall defeat has cast confusion in Williams' mind on what the problem is at SN1.
"It is difficult to know (what the players need)," Williams said in his post-match press conference.
"The team (in the past) are set up to have all of the ball, which they had, (and) had dozens of chances to score (and) did not win games and now we are playing with much less of the ball and much more players behind the ball to try to be more difficult to break down.
"Of course the first goal in particular (a 40-yard chip by Oztumer) is fantastic - he hits the ball very, very quickly and pounces on a mistake.
"We did not respond to the first goal, we responded even more poorly to the second goal, it is hard to know what the group needs."
In truth, it could have been three or four nil to Walsall who dominated throughout with Oztumer running the show in Wiltshire.
"It is not good enough," Williams continued.
"It is an exceptional goal (but) you need to look to re-focus. We got on the break and fluffed our lines (and suffered) too many turnovers.
"I think it is hugely psychological and, like I say, the first goal really seemed to be a terrible threat to us."
Swindon are now just one point off the bottom four, but Coventry City have a game in hand over the Robins.
