Jan Kostal agrees deal to remain with the Swindon Wildcats for another year

The Czech native will be entering his fifth season in Swindon and fourth straight as captain. 

 

Last season Kostal made 53 league appearances contributing for 16 goals and 11 assists for 27 points. His focused approach and his professionalism were key factor for his return according to player coach Aaron Nell. 

 

“Jan brings leadership and professionalism, if we’d still been in the EPL I still would have had Jan back. He was always part of our plans for next season. He’s a great person, great player and a great leader in the dressing room. With people like Jan we’ll have a successful season. 

 

"It was a quick decision for myself and Jan to make and we’re delighted to have him back next season.” 

 

In the final game of last season Jan iced in his 1000th career game and his experience will be vital as they look to build their roster for the NIHL S1. 

 

“Jan can play anywhere and he will do anything for his team, he’s going to be a very important player next year. We’ll have a young team again and he is so important in showing them how to be professional.” 

 

Speaking about awarding Jan the captaincy again, Nell was quick to highlight the impact Kostal has had since his arrival in Swindon during the 2012-2013 season. 

 

“The captain is one of your most valuable players and everything he brings is so important. Jan will go down as a legend in Swindon and I think he changed people’s thinking when he arrived. We’ve had good imports before Jan arrived but he’s a different gravy. 

 

"His whole attitude and professionalism around the locker room has been brilliant. He’s a great person, and I think him getting the players player of the year shows how respected he is in the locker room and what it means to our club.”
