Sheridan remaining tight-lipped on Anthony Grant omission

JOHN SHERIDAN is remaining tight-lipped on the current situation regarding Anthony Grant amid rumours of a fallout between the Swindon Town manager and the experienced midfielder. Total Sport Swindon’s Ryan Walker spoke to the STFC boss at today’s press conference.

Having not made the matchday squad since Swindon’s 1-0 home win over Wigan at the start of the month, and not played a minute for the Robins since Town’s 3-2 away victory Ipswich at the beginning of January, Anthony Grant has gone from being the first name on the team sheet to a player on the periphery of the squad.

Sidelined by a back injury in January, Grant has now been delayed from returning by an apparent concussion injury that happened in training two weeks ago.

However, rumours of a possible fallout between Grant and Sheridan are rife, with the manager giving his say on the current situation between player and manager earlier today.

“Anthony Grant has a concussion and we have to be careful with that one, it will the doctors decision and we will have to wait,” said Sheridan.

“If there was a problem between us I wouldn’t tell you anyway.

“There’s a problem with every player that’s not playing, or there should be anyway.

“They should be annoyed they’re not in the team that they don’t like the manager which is what I was like as a player,” he added.

“But at the same time, I would show the manager and force him to pick me.

“Any player that is not in the team should be unhappy, so if you’re looking for a story about Anthony Grant then no there isn’t a problem,

“I’ve given you the answer,” he said.

A weekend victory over Crewe saw Swindon climb out of the relegation zone as Sheridan earned just his fifth win as Town boss.

When asked on his plans for the future however, Sheridan insisted his main aim is to keep Swindon in League One and will assess his contract situation with the club at the end of the season.

“I don’t even look that far ahead, all I’m looking at is the Lincoln game tomorrow and that is the honest truth,” said Sheridan.

“I just want to keep the team up in League One and if I can do that then it is massive for the club.

“We want to be in League One and whether I’m here or not, Swindon want to be in League One.

“It’s better for the club and supporters and that’s all I’m focused on. I’m just thinking about the club being in League One and I’m confident we can do that,” he said.
