Website 0330 002 1993Departing Wigan Athletic, John Sheridan, 56, has been handed the keys to the County Ground, succeeding Richie Wellens to become Swindon Town’s latest manager. Having allowed his current deal at Wigan to expire, Sheridan arrives in Wiltshire having already managed ten other clubs and five within the last two years.
The former Leeds United midfielder will now seek to change Swindon’s fortunes with Town currently sitting in 20th position of the League One table, having won just three games this season and losing six times in the process.
Appointed as manager of Wigan Athletic in September, Sheridan has recorded just two wins during his time at the DW Stadium with The Latics bottom of the League One table, albeit amidst a complicated takeover bid that hopes to save the club from administration.
Having developed a close relationship with Swindon Town Chairman Lee Power, it is understood that Sheridan was urged to leave his post at Wigan by the STFC hierarchy to take over the vacant managerial post at the club.
It is expected that Noel Hunt and Tommy Wright will take charge of Saturday’s away fixture against Shrewsbury with Sheridan’s first experience at the helm likely to come against Accrington Stanley on Tuesday evening.
