Jon Obika as a left wing-back "was not a huge shock" to Luke Williams

Striker Jon Obika being used as a left wing-back raised eyebrows among many a Swindon supporter on Friday night, but the head coach was not surprised by the tactical change.

Swindon had yet another journey away from Wiltshire without success as they lost at Milton Keynes Dons, despite scoring two goals at a stadium other than the County Ground for the first time since September - in a 2-0 win against Oldham, their last away win.

Luke Norris' first-half goal that got Swindon back in the game at 2-1 made him the club's outright top goalscorer in all competitions, with four, and Raphael Branco netted a header in the second half.

Former joint-top scorer Obika was positioned in an intruiging left wing-back role from the outset, a selection by Tim Sherwood that shocked everyone, except it seems, head coach Williams.

"Those that know him (Obika) know he started his career as a left winger," Williams said.

"For us it wasn't a huge shock. I think he has all the qualities to ride people and beat people and put the ball into the box and make a cross so there's many reasons why Jon played there."

Swindon's have now finished their scheduled matches for 2016. They won only three of their 24 away matches this calendar year.
