Justin Sedgmen pens deal with Zielona Gora
Swindon speedway star Justin Sedgmen has today officially signed on the dotted line with Polish Ekstraliga side Zielona Gora, making the switch from NICE Liga 1 side Locomotive Daugvapils.
The Australian spent last Friday practicing at the Zielona Gora circuit and after impressing on track team bosses were keen to thrash out a deal.
Agreements had to be made with Daugvapils over the transfer but due to Sedgmen not featuring so far for the Latvian based side they were able to cancel his contract to allow him to make the permanent move.
An excited Sedgmen said on the move: “I’m delighted to have signed for Zielona Gora, it’s a dream come true to sign for such a big club in world speedway. It’s like signing for Hawthorn Football Club back home!
“I felt the practice last week went really well. Jerek Hampel was there and he helped me with some setups and stuff. Jerek isn’t close to being match fit but it was pretty cool to get some advice from him in the pits.
“I can’t thank the club enough for how they have made this deal happen. They have a great reputation and anyone I’ve spoken to about coming here has only good things to say.
“I also need to thank the guys at Daugavpils for agreeing to cancel my contract there. They made the switch very easy as well and I’m glad there was no complications," Sedgmen added.
For Sedgmen the hard work starts now in terms of earning a place in the Zielona Gora side and he is determined to make the jump into the Ekstraliga a successful one.
“Every rider wants to race at the highest level the can possibly achieve. I am aware of the challenge ahead and it's up to me to show on and off the track how professional I am and that I deserve my chance at this level," he said.
“From discussions I’ve had with the management there they have a lot of faith in me and are willing to back me 100 per cent.
"That's an excellent feeling and I’m aiming to repay their faith in me with points on the track," Sedgmen added.
