Kennedy: 'We have let ourselves down on set pieces'

Swindon Town boss Mark Kennedy admitted his team were outdone by “two really poor goals” after their 2-0 home defeat to Carlisle United.

Despite having more of the ball and more shots than the Cumbrians, Town were undone from two set pieces at the Nigel Eady County Ground.

Sam Lavelle headed in from a corner at the near post to put Carlisle ahead before keeper Jack Bycroft failed to keep out Luke Armstrong’s effort after the visitors had played a free-kick into the box.

Kennedy said: "I am just really frustrated because I think that we dominated the game in every aspect that we want but unfortunately we have let ourselves down on set pieces.

"We felt going into the game that we might be weak in that area, purely because of the side and because we have lost a lot of the height.

"But they didn't dominate us in those moments, we helped them with two really poor goals.”

Town came close when Danny Butterworth hit the post in the latter stages.

Kennedy added: "In terms of everything that we are trying to do, our style, our brand of being a possession-based team, the final third entries, crosses, shots, I was really happy but you are judged on winning games."

Swindon, who are now 21st in League Two, make the trip to Port Vale on Saturday (3pm).
