Kennedy keeping cool despite first win in charge of Swindon Town
Swindon Town head coach Mark Kennedy played down the magnitude of getting his first win in charge after a resounding 4-0 victory over Newport County.
Goals from Kabongo Tshimanga and Paul Glatzel put the hosts in charge of the League Two contest at the Nigel Eady County Ground, before an own goal from Newport’s Matt Baker made it three after just 21 minutes.
Joel Cotterill added a fourth as the game was wrapped up by half-time.
It was Kennedy’s first victory in eight attempts in all competitions, having taken over in the summer.
But the Dubliner was keen to stress the outcome had been coming
He said: "I try not to get too emotionally attached to the result and focus on the process of what we are trying to do and I am really confident in that and in the group we have, because we see it in training every day.
"I am pleased for the players and I am pleased for the fans because, I hate the phrase elephant in the room, but everybody wants a result.
"I am not really bothered about it, I know what is going to come but it is nice to get your first win and ultimately it breeds more confidence."
Victory moved Swindon to 18th in League Two, with six points from as many games.
"You couldn't argue if we had won by six today because the keeper has pulled off a couple of really good saves,” added Kennedy.
"I think that there is always room for improvement but I didn't think that the scoreline flattered us, I think it was very fair.”
Town’s next test comes at home against Carlisle United on Saturday (3pm).
