Kennedy understands fan frustration after another Swindon Town defeat
Swindon Town head coach Mark Kennedy had “no gripes” with a hostile reception from some fans after they slumped to another defeat.
Town were beaten 2-1 against Port Vale in League Two, despite a successful free-kick from Will Wright late on.
It means they remain 21st in the division, with six points picked up from eight games played.
Asked whether he was surprised by the hostile reception from some supporters at full-time, Kennedy told BBC Radio Wiltshire: “No, not at all. Football is an emotional sport and I say that respectfully. I am not saying anybody was emotionally misbehaving or anything like that.”
He added: “I get it, I’ve played over 500 games and have been coaching since 2000. I’ve been a fan.
“The last thing I talk about before I come out tends to be about life, people, experiences and what it means to fans. Today we actually spoke about that.
“We speak about win, lose, or draw, we are all going to clap the fans.
“I totally understand it. Football is the biggest rollercoaster you can ever be involved in, it makes or breaks peoples’ weeks.
“I am not going over there expecting a pat on the back and a clap, I’m walking over expecting we could get a bit of grief here, I totally get it. No gripes from us whatsoever.”
After a goalless first half at Vale Park, George Byers headed home from a corner to put Darren Moore’s side a goal ahead.
A mistake in defence then allowed Vale’s Brandon Cover the opportunity to convert a second, to all-but seal the contest.
Wright’s precise free-kick pulled a goal back for Town but it proved not enough as Kennedy’s side fell to just won win in eight league games.
He added: “I thought we were below par today but if you think we’re going to some to Port Vale and win 3-0, we’re all deluded. Did I think we played well today? No we didn’t.
“I think I’m a very, very good coach, I’ve seen the game and understand the game. I actually think our performances have been very good this year. Do I think our results have been good? No I don’t.”
