Kenton Smith not worried by feisty Wildcats in Basingstoke loss

Wildcats' assistant coach Kenton Smith was not overly concerned about Swindon standing up for their teammates in what was a bad-tempered Basingstoke battle on Saturday.

During the second period in particular tensions reached boiling point on the ice at the Link centre, with play stopped for a prolonged amount of time and numerous fights broke out between the two teams.

"Obviously, if someone is getting taken advantage of everybody should be in there with their gloves off sticking up for their team," Smith said.

"That is just the way it is - you cannot hold back. We are with each other non-stop so it is like a family.

"I am not sure if that (to wind Swindon up) was their gameplan but they do work hard as a team but, at the end of the day this is our rink and no-one pushes us around in our rink and we stuck out for each other, unfortunately we did not get the victory."
